Hello, and welcome to the home of Budget Legacy. Our goal is to provide you with information and inspiration to join the best Magic: the Gathering format, Legacy, without having to spend all your savings to get there. You’ll find many budget Legacy decks to choose from, so you can pick what you like to play, while sticking to the budget that suits you.
The term “budget” is a bit of a subjective concept. While 20 EUR/USD is a lot to some, it may be change to others. We’re going to be straight with you: you’re not building a tier 1 Legacy deck for under 500 EUR/USD. However, there are some archetypes that can be perfectly competitive for this amount or even less. There’s a lot of Legacy decks that are classified as relatively cheap. We’re trying to collect these decks, provide information and resources on them and inspire you to join Legacy with an affordable deck.
We are building on a database of Legacy decks that you can start building on a budget. Many of these decks are playable from 500-600 EUR/USD. In addition to providing cheap legacy decks, we try to give you some tools to make your own decisions on whether you want to build a deck on a certain budget. We’re talking alternatives to expensive cards, building blocks so you can build up to a competitive version of a deck, and budget planning advice. At the end of the day, we want you to have as much fun as we do in Magic: the Gathering. We want you to be able to play Legacy without feeling excluded because some of the decks may seem out of reach.
If you want to know what’s coming next for this website, we have a public board for upcoming tickets. You can access the board here.
Why play Legacy?
Maybe we should start by asking this question. Why would you play Legacy? If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, you might think you’re better off playing Pioneer or Modern. Truth be told: there are probably as many budget Legacy decks as there are budget Modern decks. Modern has become expensive over the years and while the most expensive Modern deck doesn’t come close to the most expensive Legacy deck’s price tag, both formats have a lot of decks to choose from if you want to spend, say, max. 600 EUR/USD.
If that’s the case, Legacy is a more interesting format in my totally unbiased opinion. I don’t want to downplay Modern by any means (it’s a great format), but Legacy’s card pool is much larger and there’s a wider variety of decks. Additionally, there is much more to explore in terms of interactions, sequencing and those kind of complex things that make Magic: The Gathering so interesting. Besides, there’s just that thing about playing the format of Brainstorm, Wasteland and Dark Ritual that feels so powerful. Proactively Wastelanding your opponent’s Wasteland just so you can safely make a 20/20 out of a land is something you won’t see in many formats, and that’s just one of many things that makes Legacy amazing.
